Use What You’ve Got

giving gift

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

1 Cor 2:12

Has anyone else noticed how fast the days, weeks, months and years seem to be going?  It is already February. It was just Monday morning and now it’s Friday. Time could (literally)pass us by if we are not careful.

Each of us has been given something by God (Rom 12:6). A talent – so to speak- to be used, to be multiplied and not to buried in the ground. Are we making the best of the time that we have been given to use what we have been given? Have we become so busy that  these talents take second place to the other priorities in life?

We have to be faithful with the little that is in our hands or it may be taken from us (Matt 25:29). Sometimes these tasks may seem overwhelming as we think about how we will achieve but the thing is we may just need to make one small step. In the parable where the Master gave talents to three of his servants (Matt 25), on his return he told the servant who had buried his talent, that he could have put it in the bank to gain interest (Matt 25:27). There was a minimum that would have been ok.

Do you know what God has given you and are you paying attention to it? Is there a small step that you can take to nurture this gift and not forget it? Do you think that achievement in this area is impossible?

I ask these questions as I too seek to be a good steward. It always seems to be easier to do nothing but at the end of the day, God’s opinion matters more than ours or anyone else’s.

May we all, by the grace of God, be diligent with our gifts and encourage others to do so as well.
