PSALM 37:4 (NIV) 4 TAKE DELIGHT IN THE LORD, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART. vs 23 THE LORD MAKES FIRM THE STEPS OF THE ONE WHO DELIGHTS IN HIM.

On January 1st I thought..”it’s just another day, why do we make such a big fuss about it?” Have you ever felt like this? The fact remains however, we mark time by calendar years, just as we mark our lifetime by birthdays. A new year brings the joy of new possibilities and a fresh start.. and at the end of the year we can look back and celebrate the things that happened, goals we accomplished and marvel at the goodness of God in bringing us through it all..the good, the bad and the ugly!

As we look forward to all that is fresh and new this year, let us not be quick to totally forget the past..challenges and victories.. because in them we learnt specific nuggets of wisdom and things about God that will be invaluable to us as we face this year. Instead let’s be purposeful in leaving behind regret and allow this new found wisdom and knowledge of God strengthen and embolden us.

Behind the scenes of our lives and the entire existence of mankind is a creator who carefully hung every star, made the universe, placed the earth the correct distance from the sun and the moon and made sure that there was the right composition of gases in our atmosphere so that we could breathe. We can trust Him and take comfort knowing that the order of our lives and days is just as carefully and wisely planned as was the universe. The whole bible speaks to the eternal plan God has for mankind and we can find His attention to the details of our existence in these verses.

~ He’s knows the number of hairs on our heads: Matt 10: 29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

~ He promises that He will give His angels charge over us: Ps 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

~ He knows what we need even before we ask: Matthew 6:8 ..For your father knows what you need before you ask him.

~ He knows when we sit and rise, knows our words before we speak them, crafted us in our mother’s womb, knew us before we were born and no matter where we go, we can never hide from Him. Ps 139.

He says that with Him all things are possible: So healing is possible, financial turnaround is possible, rebuilding that relationship is possible. You can face whatever lies ahead because He is with you and He is for you.

So let your focus be always on delighting yourself in Him and in His presence, don’t let a day go by that you do not engage the supreme, infinite wisdom and love that is found in Christ through prayer, reading His word and worshipping Him. Make knowing Him your purpose and your goal and try not to let the business of life squeeze this out because everything else is secondary and flows from Him.

I’m sure we all have those specific goals we want to accomplish…loosing those extra 15 or 20 lbs, finishing a particular project, taking better care of ourselves and our families, rebuilding physical health or repairing a broken relationship, making more money etc. All of these are good goals to have in life and surely we should go after them, but let the primary delight and focus be on Jesus and He has promised that He will give you the desires of your heart..because your desires would be guided by Him.

Today if you’ve read this and you don’t know Him..His word says in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” You can receive Him and His eternal guidance by believing in your heart that He died for your sins, submitting your life to Him and confessing with your mouth your sinfulness and asking Him to live in your heart. It’s the best decision you will ever make!!

I pray that you will have a God-filled year and that you will sense His nearness to you as you focus on growing daily in Him.
